Regenerative medicine

morreale Saturday 17 of December, 2011
PBS News hour did a short story on regenerative medicine a few days ago with Miles O'Brien reporting. Tissue engineers have been able to grow tissues using stem cells from the patient and an extra cellular matrix from pig balders. The resulting replacement tissue is genetically identical to the patient so there is a very low chance of rejection. Researchers have grown muscle tissue and transplanted it with great success, and are working to replace whole organs and nerves to repair spinal cord injuries.

Nanotechnology Law Report

morreale Monday 12 of December, 2011
Someone sent me a link to the
Nanotechnology Law Report
web site. The site is produced by a law firm and post articles on the intersection for nanotechnology and law. There are many interesting articles on nanotechnology and risk, toxicology, safety, and environmental health.

Life science wiki

morreale Monday 05 of December, 2011
Wikigenes is a wiki tool designed to promote open collaboration in synthetic biology. Wikigenes keeps information on each entry so that all information can be attributed and tacked by author. This allows information to be validated within a tool that allows anyone to change edit the information. The tool was started by started by Marianna Limas and Gerd Moe-Behrens, and supported by MIT and others. For more information about wikiegene, check out the Nature Genetics article A wiki for the life sciences where authorship matters by Robert Hoffmann.
